​​​​​​​​​Home Care Aide: Core Basic and Orientation/Safety Training

Any long-term care worker employed by an adult family home, boarding home or Home Care agency and hired after January 7, 2012, who did not work as a Home Care Aide in 2011, must complete 75 hours of training within 150 days of being hired.  See Exemptions under Regulatory Requirements tab.  This requires completion of 5 hours of Orientation/Safety Training, 70 hours of Core Basic/Mental Health and Dementia training within 120 days, and successfully passing the Washington State certification examination within 30 days of completion of class.  Classes are held weekly in Kirkland and in Tacoma.

In-Class Schedule: The training course consists of one in-classroom meeting per week for 5 weeks and, during those 5 weeks, 50 hours of online coursework must be completed by the last class.

All classes require 6 students minimum. When registering please provide email and phone number for contact in case class dates need to be adjusted for minimum requirement.

Online Schedule: 50 hours of online coursework that includes Core Basic and Safety & Orientation must be completed within 120 days from class start date.

Home Care Aide Class Cost:
Prices in effect beginning February 2017 classes:

Option 1 - $400.00 if paid in full prior to start of class (you save $25.00 in registration fees)

Option 2 - $425.00 if paid weekly, which includes a $25.00 advance registration fee. Pay $125.00 down and $100.00 each week of class for a total of $425.00

Certification Testing:  In order to get your Certificate of Completion for the Core Basic, Population Specific Mental Health Dementia and Safety and Orientation training, all 5 classes and the 50 hours online must be completed. You are then eligible for the Washington State Certification test to become a Home Health Aide.  Application materials to schedule testing time with Prometrics are distributed during the first class session. It is the responsibility of each student to complete an application form and send it in to schedule a testing time.

Cost for Certification and Testing:  There is an initial $60.00 fee that must be sent with application to the Department of Health at the beginning of the class.  This fee will increase to $85.00 March 1, 2016 per the Washington State Department of Health. The testing fee for Prometrics is $115.00 which must accompany the application form.

Our Refund Policy: Full refund with 7 day advance notice prior to start of first class for classroom courses. NOTE: Refunds for the Safety & Orientation course must be requested prior to logging into the beginning module. No refunds will be issued once the module is opened.
